Seriously, ambulances were made to never come apart.
That’s what we quickly found out when trying to do seemingly simple things like removing the stretcher hardware and removing the captain’s chair. Tasks that we felt should take 30-mins top ended up taking hours and resulted in broken drill bits and broken confidence.
The shelf that we tried to take out piece by piece turned out to be one large piece welded together from the back. We obviously had no way of knowing that until we wrestled the whole thing out. It felt as if the ambo was resisting change and fighting us back. Tiff even sustained minor injuries while taking the shelf out and spent the next few days limping around.
The Pressure Was On
Our time with this wonderful garage home was ticking away and each day we felt the pressure to get more done. This called for late nights and early mornings to make sure progress was being made. Here we are, a month into the “build” and we haven’t even built or added anything to the ambo yet. That’s when we knew we were up for a long road ahead. Sigh.
