The joke was made that pretty soon I’ll be a pro and starting my own marine repair business. I took it as a kind gesture coming from the pro who was fixing our AC.

Besides the air conditioning, there was also the part he ordered for the aft head, since it was not refilling after flushing. I told him to get the part and I will do the install myself.
Little did I know that I would be taking on multiple projects at once. We had multiple bilge pumps and float switches in need of replacing. This is one of those installs where all I saw was explosions and water pouring on board in my mind.
But a quick reflection of our first repair bill helped me get over my fear and dive in. You see, boats are looked at as toys, very specialized toys. So if you have a boat, and are requiring a service, then you can expect to pay sometimes double land labor charges because boats are a luxury.

The good new is this particular time, our technician spent a few hours to go over the boat from forward to aft, so I had a pretty good working understanding of how the major features functioned on the boat in terms of living on it, and what required maintenance.
We were finally feeling a little confident about the 51 feet of fiberglass floating in a cove off of the Caloosahatchee River. Which is good news, because we decided to be AirBnB hosts as mentioned. So, I had to know how to use it if I was going to instruct our future guests on how to ensure everything goes smoothly for their stay.
The only kicker with that is, we had never actually stayed on the boat ourselves!
