How’s The Boat Search Going?

March 26, 2018

That seems to be the million dollar question.

When we sold the Wiffersnapper in February, we were super undecided on what the next boat would be. With our long laundry list of needs and desires, we finally sat down to sort our thoughts, and list out the pros and cons of the majorly different styles of boats we were considering.

Our biggest concerns were:

  • Fuel tank size
  • Newer boat w/ better maintenance history & upkeep
  • Comfortable indoor and outdoor seating
  • Dinghy lift
  • Water tank size
  • Hull with planing abilities
  • Easy boarding from dinghy

After visiting each style and getting a feel for them all… we both really like the SeaRay 480 Sedan Bridge. The model was (mass) manufactured between 1998 – 2002-ish, so there are a decent amount of them on the market. It has twin diesel engines that can get up and go, but you can also conserve fuel alright at lower RPMs.

We LOVE the luxurious inside features of the particular one we saw, and felt the layout was very conducive for our live aboard needs, which includes safe maneuverability for the cats.  We enjoyed the seating arrangement inside and out, especially the newer models that included AC in the fly-bridge! Hello Florida Summers!

So, as of right now, the SeaRay is our one of our favorites, but we’re not quite ready to buy yet. We’re taking some time to let the dust settle from our last boat sale, and get our finances in order. This boat costs much more than Wiffersnapper, so we want to do everything we can to qualify for the amount needed, and oh yeah, have money for our wedding in November!

That’s why we’ve picked up side-hustles. Will has been Uber driving his butt off, day and night… and I have started Shipt shopping in the evenings and on weekends. Our wonderful roommates, Bobby and Christina, help feed the cats (and ourselves), since we don’t get home until about 10pm every night (sometimes 3am for Will).

It’s kind of a crazy life right now… but we know it will be worth it when we’re sitting on the fly-bridge with the cats, and rum punch in hand. Ahhh…. soon Ryback, soon.
